Message from the PTA…
Thank you, Deal parents, for getting our PTA off to such a great start! As of today, the PTA has collected nearly $63,000 from some 375 families.
That means we are well on our way to our goal of making sure we can support our students, our teachers and our school. Special recognition to the sixth grade parents who came through in a big way—more than 30 percent of families in this grade took the time to join the PTA!
How did we do this? Many came to eat pizza, meet old and new friends at Pete’s Apizza. Thanks to former Deal parent and Pete’s owner, Joel Mehr, for his generosity. At Back-to-School night, some 100 parents came with checks, credit cards and offers to get involved. And on Friday evening, more than 150 parents and students laid down a picnic blanket in the cafeteria to end the week with laughter and good company at our first ever Party on the Plaza movie and ice cream social. Meanwhile, our online site and mailbox filled with contributions.
While we all win big with contributions to the PTA budget, last week some families won a little extra in our Dues Week drawings. Congratulations to Elizabeth Vaden who won the $50 gift certificate to Pete’s, Marina Grigorian, who won a t-shirt/sweatshirt combo, and to Betsy Wiramidjaja, who won a school spirit goody bag last Friday.
But we need to keep going, because we are not done. While we are thrilled with the great start, we need to keep the momentum up if we are to support Deal the way we want to – with all the extras and necessities that make middle school so memorable. And while nearly 40 percent of our families have joined the PTA, there are many who we still need to get involved.
