Spring is almost here! Spruce up your yard and receive a tax deduction for supporting the Athletic Department! High quality shredded hardwood mulch, only $5.00 per two cubic foot bag.

Payments can be made by check to: Alice Deal Middle School Mulch Fundraiser.

Orders can be picked up at Alice Deal gym parking lot on Saturday, April 14th, 8:00am to noon.

Come join us for a viewing and discussion of the award-winning documentary “Race to Nowhere”, an eye-opening film about the pressures faced by young people, teachers, and parents in our education system and what we need to do to prepare our kids for the future. The film will be followed by a discussion.

The annual PTA auction is just 3 weeks away on Saturday, February 25, and we hope you’re as excited as we are. Not only is this event a lot of fun, it’s a great way for the Deal community to support our school.

If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, what are you waiting for? All you have to do is visit dealpta.maestroweb.com to buy your tickets.

While you’re on the website, look at all of the amazing items up for bid–including the use of BET’s Executive Suite at the Verizon Center for a Wizards game, a suite for 12 for the sold-out Coldplay concert at the Verizon Center, and a VIP Package for this year’s 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.

Alternatively, the auction team is making it even easier to get your tickets. They’ll be in the main hallway at Deal during Parent-Teacher Conferences on February 6. Bring your credit card or checkbook and sign up. Everyone who buys auction tickets on the 6th will be entered into a drawing for two burgers and two shakes from ZBurger.

Summer is a great time to kick back with a book, whether it’s at the beach or in your bed! This summer you will be required to read two books for school and complete one activity for each book (a total of two activities). Both activities are due on August 22, 2011.

Reading is the best way to be prepared for school. Therefore, we encourage you to read as much as possible and would love for you to record some of the books you read
on the attached form. A list of suggested readings for your grade is also posted below.

BIKES FOR THE WORLD Collection: Saturday, June 11

The ELL Department is sponsoring its annual BIKES FOR THE WORLD bicycle collection on Saturday, June 11 from 10 am – 1 pm. This year our bicycles will go to the Philippines to support a school project that provides transportation to low-income students who are at risk of dropping out and who currently walk miles to and from school each day.

If you would like to support this project, please volunteer on Saturday or donate that tax-deductible used bicycle and $10 to help defray the shipping costs. Sewing machines, usable bike parts, accessories and tools are also gratefully accepted.
